About This
- WHAT VARIETY AM I GETTING? Dwarf Fairy Mix Candytuft (Iberis umbellata) is a compact annual with fragrant flowers in pink, carmine, white, and lavender. This 2-pack contains 500 heirloom, open-pollinated, non-GMO seeds total, 250 seeds per pack.
- WHAT DO THE FLOWERS LOOK LIKE? Dwarf Fairy Mix produces fragrant, flat-topped flower clusters measuring 1β2 in. across in a four-color mix of pink, carmine, white, and lavender. Blooms appear from late spring through summer.
- HOW BIG DOES DWARF FAIRY MIX GROW? Plants reach just 8β10 in. tall with a compact, mounding habit that spreads to form low ground cover. The dwarf size works especially well along border fronts, edging, rock gardens, containers, and cottage garden paths.
- HOW DO I GERMINATE CANDYTUFT SEEDS? Surface sow or barely cover seeds to no more than 1/8 in. deep because light aids germination. Seeds typically germinate in 14β21 days at 70β75Β°F. Thin seedlings to approximately 8β10 in. apart after emergence.
- WHEN SHOULD I PLANT CANDYTUFT? Direct sow outdoors after the last frost for best results. Seeds may also be started indoors 6β8 weeks before the last frost, preferably in individual pots to minimize root disturbance when transplanting.
- WHAT SOIL AND LIGHT CONDITIONS DOES CANDYTUFT PREFER? Grow in full sun to partial shade and well-drained, alkaline-to-neutral soil. Candytuft tolerates poor and rocky ground and becomes drought tolerant once established. Avoid wet, heavy clay and overwatering.
- DOES CANDYTUFT ATTRACT POLLINATORS? Yes. Its wide, flat-topped flower clusters provide accessible landing areas for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. Iberis umbellata also supports moth caterpillars, adding wildlife value to pollinator-friendly plantings.
- IS CANDYTUFT DEER AND RABBIT RESISTANT? Dwarf Fairy Mix is typically avoided by deer and rabbits. Combined with its drought tolerance and ability to grow in poor soil, it makes a practical low-maintenance annual for borders and rock gardens.
- WHERE CAN I GROW DWARF FAIRY MIX? Its compact growth works well as ground cover and in borders, edging, rock gardens, raised beds, containers, window boxes, cottage gardens, fairy gardens, sunny slopes, and drought-tolerant landscapes.
- HOW MUCH DO I GET? This 2-pack contains 500 Candytuft seeds total, with 250 seeds and 0.5g per envelope for a total net weight of 1g. Shear plants back by about one-third after the first major bloom flush to encourage another round of flowers.
